Abstract
El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar la caracterización fitoquímica y evaluación de la actividad antioxidante de la raíz de Dracontium plowmanii (sacha jergón), usada en medicina tradicional. Metodología: Fue un estudio básico y descriptivo, con raíces de Dracontium plowmanii, empleando extractos etanólico y acuoso para pruebas fitoquímicas y el método DPPH. Resultados: El extracto etanólico presentó mayor contenido de metabolitos secundarios que el acuoso, destacando taninos, esteroides, catequinas y saponinas; además, mostró mayor actividad antioxidante (81,79 %) frente al extracto acuoso (77,61 %).Conclusión: la raíz de Dracontium plowmanii contiene metabolitos secundarios con actividad antioxidante, siendo el extracto etanólico significativamente superior al acuoso (p = 0,040), confirmándose la hipótesis de investigación.
The objective of this study was to determine the phytochemical characterization and evaluate the antioxidant activity of the root of Dracontium plowmanii (sacha jergón), used in traditional medicine. Methodology: This was a basic, descriptive study using Dracontium plowmanii roots, employing ethanolic and aqueous extracts for phytochemical testing and the DPPH method. Results: The ethanolic extract had a higher content of secondary metabolites than the aqueous extract, notably tannins, steroids, catechins, and saponins; it also showed greater antioxidant activity (81.79%) than the aqueous extract (77.61%). Conclusion: The root of Dracontium plowmanii contains secondary metabolites with antioxidant activity, with the ethanolic extract being significantly superior to the aqueous extract (p = 0.040), confirming the research hypothesis.
