Evaluación In Vitro del Efecto Protector de Mascarillas Frente a Escherichia Coli en Lima 2023.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) of various types of masks. Regarding the methodology, the research is basic quantitative in nature, the design is experimental, descriptive. The sample consisted of five types of face masks, which were nebulized with a suspension of the E. coli ATCC 25922 strain, and the BFE was evaluated by counting CFU. The results obtained, the N95 type mask showed the highest BFE (100%), the KN95 99.95 ± 0.05%, while the type I mask showed the lowest value (97.82 ± 2.18%). In conclusion, the importance of careful selection of masks for adequate protection is demonstrated, especially in situations where BFE is critical.
