| dc.description.tableofcontents | The aim of this research was to evaluate the antidiarrheal effect of a hydroalcoholic extract of dried Azadirachta indica (Neem) leaves in albino mice using an activated charcoal intestinal transit model. In this applied experimental study, the extract was prepared by macerating 550 g of dried leaves in 70% ethanol for 15 days, followed by filtration and concentration. A solubility test and qualitative phytochemical screening were also performed. Thirty Mus musculus mice weighing 35–45 g were randomly assigned to five groups (n=6): negative control (physiological saline 10 mL/kg), positive control (loperamide 1 mg/kg), and extract at 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg administered orally. Treatments were administered after an 18-hour fast. Thirty minutes later, 10% activated charcoal was administered, and at 30 minutes the distance traveled was measured to calculate the intestinal motility index (IMI) and the inhibition of transit. ANOVA showed highly significant differences (p<0.001), and Tukey's test indicated statistical similarity between Azadirachta indica (Neem) 400 mg/kg and loperamide. It is concluded that the hydroalcoholic extract of Azadirachta indica (Neem) possesses significant antidiarrheal activity due to its antimotility effect. | |
