Abstract
The study aimed to determine the relationship between self-esteem and social skills in adolescents at the María Auxiliadora Educational Institution in Huanta, Ayacucho, in 2024. Method: a basic study with a non-experimental, correlational-cross-sectional design was adopted. The research included a sample of 234 adolescents selected through simple probability sampling from a population of 600 adolescents. A survey was used as the data collection technique, and the Rosenberg questionnaire was applied to measure self-esteem and the Social Skills Scale to assess social skills. Results: The findings indicated that 50% (117) of the adolescents had an average level of self-esteem, while 67.15% (157) showed low social skills development. Likewise, when relating both variables through Spearman's nonparametric correlation test, a coefficient of Rho = 0.166 and a value of p = 0.011 were obtained, which was lower than alpha = 0.05. Conclusion: A weak positive relationship was found between self-esteem and social skills in adolescents (Rho = 0.166, p = 0.011).
