Abstract

The study aimed to conduct a pharmacological and epidemiological analysis of antibiotic use in patients with urinary tract infections treated at the EsSalud La Merced Hospital during 2025. The research was descriptive, observational, and cross-sectional in design. The study population consisted of 50 individuals who received antibiotic treatment. The results showed that the most frequently prescribed antibiotics were ceftriaxone (30%), gentamicin (18%), and meropenem (10%), with intravenous administration predominating in 92% of cases. Epidemiologically, 68% of cases were women and 52% were older adults. It was found that 56% of patients did not have a prior urine culture, reflecting the persistence of empirical treatment. The study concludes that the predominant use of broad-spectrum antibiotics without microbiological confirmation increases the risk of bacterial resistance.
