Abstract
The general objective of the research was to determine whether the hydroalcoholic extract of *Petiveria alliacea* L. ("mucura") leaves exhibited a gastroprotective effect in albino rats. This was a basic study employing an experimental, prospective, and cross-sectional design. The plant sample consisted of 250 g of *Petiveria alliacea* L. ("mucura") leaves. The results showed that the extract was soluble in water, ethanol, and methanol, and phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, phenolic compounds, saponins, and tannins. Groups treated with the extract exhibited gastroprotective effects of 37%, 59.3%, and 63% at doses of 200, 400, and 600 mg/kg, respectively. It was concluded that the hydroalcoholic extract of *Petiveria alliacea* L. ("mucura") leaves demonstrated a gastroprotective effect in albino rats; this effect was most pronounced at the 600 mg/kg dose, although it was lower than that of omeprazole.
