Abstract
The study aimed to evaluate the relationship between oral health knowledge and the DMFT index in 15- to 16-year-old students at the Luis Aguilar Romaní School in 2024. A descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional methodology was used. The sample was probabilistic, with 67 students agreeing to participate. Data were collected through a 19-question questionnaire and intraoral clinical records. Results showed that 85.07% of participants demonstrated a "good" level of knowledge, while the DMFT index of 8.93% was considered "very high." Statistical analysis (Spearman's rho = -0.029; p = 0.8178) indicated no significant relationship between knowledge and caries. In conclusion, theoretical knowledge and oral health practices alone do not prevent caries; interventions focused on habits, prevention, and socioeconomic factors are required.
