Abstract
Omeprazole is one of the most used secretion inhibitors for treat gastritis and heartburn Although doctors prescribe it for short periods of time because it can generate some effects collateral, being an over-the-counter medication, patients follow it consuming without control and without taking risks into account; in that sense the OBJECTIVE of this investigation was to evaluate the abuse of the consumption of omeprazole in outpatients of the Clinical Teaching Hospital Surgical Daniel Alcides Carrión. Using as METHODOLOGY the basic, prospective and transversal study, of a descriptive level; applying a questionnaire in a SAMPLE 316 ambulatory patients who they received a query; obtained as RESULTS that 90% of patients abuse the consumption of omeprazole, the time of consumption is greater than 2 years, in a dose of 20 mg per day, consume it without a prescription more than half of them, and it produces discomforts such as headache and constipation.
