Abstract
El estudio evaluó el efecto antiulceroso del extracto hidroalcohólico de hojas de Vallesia glabra (agracejo peruano) en ratas albinas Holtzman con úlceras gástricas inducidas por etanol. Se utilizaron 18 ratas distribuidas en grupos control y grupos tratados con dosis de 200, 400 y 600 mg/kg del extracto. El tamizaje fitoquímico identificó compuestos fenólicos, flavonoides, taninos y saponinas. Los resultados demostraron que el extracto posee actividad antiulcerosa dependiente de la dosis. La mayor protección se observó con 600 mg/kg, alcanzando un 53,1 % de inhibición de las lesiones gástricas. Aunque su efecto fue menor que el del omeprazol (71,9 %), mostró una reducción significativa del índice de ulceración. La actividad observada podría atribuirse a los metabolitos con propiedades antioxidantes y gastroprotectoras presentes en la planta. Se concluye que Vallesia glabra presenta potencial como alternativa natural para la prevención y tratamiento de úlceras gástricas.
This study evaluated the anti-ulcer effect of a hydroalcoholic extract of Vallesia glabra (Peruvian barberry) leaves in Holtzman albino rats with ethanol-induced gastric ulcers. Eighteen rats were divided into control groups and groups treated with doses of 200, 400, and 600 mg/kg of the extract. Phytochemical screening identified phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. The results demonstrated that the extract possesses dose-dependent anti-ulcer activity. The greatest protection was observed at 600 mg/kg, reaching 53.1% inhibition of gastric lesions. Although its effect was less than that of omeprazole (71.9%), it showed a significant reduction in the ulceration index. The observed activity could be attributed to metabolites with antioxidant and gastroprotective properties present in the plant. It is concluded that Vallesia glabra has potential as a natural alternative for the prevention and treatment of gastric ulcers.
