Abstract
El objetivo del siguiente trabajo de investigación es: Demostrar la actividad antibacteriana del aceite esencial de Syzygium aromaticum (clavo de olor) frente a Streptococcus mutans. El método de estudio fue Transversal, prospectivo y diseño experimental, la muestra fue 5 kg de clavo de olor. Como resultado se identificaron alcaloides, compuestos fenólicos, taninos en cantidad escasa y triterpenos y esteroides en cantidad abundante, los diámetros promedio de los halos de inhibición fueron de 15,46+0,37mm (50%), de 16,57+0,29mm (75%) y de 19,12+0,24mm (100%); de 6,07+0,15mm (control negativo) y de 36,07+0,33mm (control positivo), la prueba de ANOVA y Tukey confirmaron con un nivel de significancia de 0,05. En conclusión, el aceite esencial de Syzygium aromaticum (clavo de olor) presentó actividad antibacteriana del frente a” Streptococcus mutans.

In conclusion, the essential oil of Syzygium aromaticum (clove) presented antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans.
