Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the level of knowledge about self-medication with antibiotics among the residents of Auquimarca – Chilca during 2025. It employed a quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental, cross-sectional design, conducted with a sample of 120 adult residents selected through non-probability sampling who reported self-medicating. The results showed that the overall level of knowledge was predominantly medium (55.8%), followed by low (35.0%) and high (9.2%). Similarly, in the dimension of risks and adverse reactions, the low level predominated (55.8%), while in the method of acquisition, the medium level prevailed (70.0%). The study concludes that the majority of residents possess insufficient or partial knowledge about self-medication with antibiotics, which contributes to their inappropriate use and highlights the urgent need to implement community health education strategies and greater control over pharmaceutical dispensing.
