Abstract
Objective: To determine the in vitro antibacterial effect of the ethanolic extract of Lantana camara L "hierba de la maestranza" flowers on Escherichia coli. Methods: Prospective and experimental, the study population was Lantana camara, the ethanolic extract was obtained by maceration in 96° ethanol for 8 days in a dark flask, the phytochemical study was carried out and the antibacterial effect was determined by the well diffusion method. Results: The extract at 100, 75 and 50% obtained halos of 15.39, 13.52 and 8.93 mm respectively and the positive control (ciprofloxacin) obtained a halo of 23.98 mm. Conclusions: The ethanolic extracts of the flowers of Lantana camara L "hierba de la maestranza" will present antibacterial effect on Escherichia coli at the concentrations of 50%, 75% and 100%
