Características Morfométricas Del Agujero Mentoniano Mediante El Análisis De Tomografías Computarizadas Cone Beam En Pacientes Adultos, Huancayo 2026

Abstract

The objective was to determine the morphometric characteristics of the mental foramen through the analysis of Cone Beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans in adult patients from Huancayo in 2026. This was a basic, descriptive, retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 169 CBCT scans from patients aged 18 to 54 years. The results showed that a circular shape was predominant in both hemiarches—more so on the right (52.1%) than on the left (41.4%). Regarding location, the most frequent position was "position 3," situated between the first and second premolars; this was observed in 72.2% of the right hemiarches and 75.1% of the left hemiarches. In terms of size, the mean diameter was 2.42 mm for the right hemiarch and 2.49 mm for the left. By age group, the 35–54 age range showed larger mean diameters (2.47 mm on the right; 2.43 mm on the left) compared to the 18–35 age range (2.41 mm on the right; 2.37 mm on the left), with values ranging from 1.20 mm to 3.91 mm. It was concluded that the mental foramen was predominantly circular in shape in both hemiarches. The most frequent location was between the first and second premolars, corresponding to "position 3" according to the classification system developed by Jasser and Nwoku.
