Abstract
The study aimed to determine the relationship between the financial burden of medication costs and socioeconomic factors in 150 households served by pharmacies in Huancayo during 2026. It was a basic, quantitative, relational, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and prospective study using convenience sampling. The results revealed a high financial burden: 49.3% spent S/ 200 or more per month, 29.3% allocated ≥25% of their income to medications, and 11.3% incurred catastrophic expenditure (40%). It was concluded that the financial burden was significantly associated with socioeconomic factors, primarily affecting low-income households and those with members suffering from chronic diseases.
