Endl. “Mullaca” en ratas albinas

Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the hypoglycemic effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of *Muehlenbeckia volcanica* ("mullaca") leaves in albino rats. An applied, experimental, prospective, and longitudinal study was conducted using 500 g of leaves from Zurite, Cusco, and 25 rats distributed into five groups. Basal glucose levels and levels at 1, 3, and 6 hours were measured, and phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and tannins were identified. Doses of 500 and 750 mg/kg produced hypoglycemic effects of 17.82% and 33.46%, respectively, compared to 45.40% for insulin (p < 0.001). It was concluded that the extract exhibited a hypoglycemic effect—greatest at the 750 mg/kg dose—although it was lower than that of insulin.
