Abstract
The objective of this research was to determine the acute toxic effect of a hydroalcoholic extract of *Rumex crispus* L. (curly dock) leaves in Holtzman rats. A quantitative, basic, experimental study of an explanatory nature was conducted. The sample consisted of 10 male Holtzman rats (280 g to 410 g), randomly assigned to a control group (n=2) and two treatment groups that received 300 mg/kg and 2000 mg/kg of the extract (n=4 per group). Liver function tests and the Irwin test for neurobehavioral assessment were performed. The results showed increases in AST (TGO) levels and total protein, with significant differences (p<0.05), particularly in the 300 mg/kg group. The Kruskal-Wallis test revealed significant differences regarding catalepsy, akinesia, rolling-type gait, and respiratory rate. The 2000 mg/kg dose induced more pronounced catalepsy and akinesia. It was concluded that the extract produced acute toxic effects, with mild hepatic toxicity at 300 mg/kg and no significant hepatic toxicity at 2000 mg/kg.
